Bilingual course: French - English; according to the participants
3 hours on 1 day
Course number: GR
This course is for all those who like to take their time, play, search, share, learn and improvise.
This hands-on workshop is centered around urban strolling. It is above all a rigorous visual composition exercise, but several technical elements are part of the process. There is no predetermined teaching material: participants simply raise their questions and comments along the way. The teacher is available during the walk to answer specific questions, both technical and aesthetic.
By photographing shapes on the ground, according to precise rules, it becomes possible to better contain and experiment with the visual permutations. Limited to a fixed point of view, perpendicular to the ground with a two-dimensional plane, Grounds impose a creative necessity and an appreciation for the raw visual material such as textures and tones. This work of graphic simplicity puts into operation the compositional muscles and exercises the notions of balance and abstraction.
From a practical point of view, making Grounds involves the appropriate use of particular focal lengths, relatively high shutter speeds and a thoughtful approach to light measurements.
At a philosophical or anthropological level, a series of Grounds can initiate a reflection on subject, public space, territory, the infinitely small / big, and being present in the moment.
